5 Romantic Things To Do In Rome
Planning a romantic getaway in Rome?
With its stunning skyline, charming piazzas and glorious gardens, the Eternal City is brimming with romantic things to do. Whether you’re trying to impress a brand-new crush, get together with your soulmate or plan the perfect honeymoon, TreasureRome has come up with a list of ideas to turn any date-night into a full-blown fairytale.
Rent a Boat in Villa Borghese
Thanks to its delightfully manicured gardens, Villa Borghese is already an enchanting spot for a passeggiata, or stroll, with your crush. Add in the oh-so-cute little lake (known as the laghetto in Italian) and you’ve got the perfect spot for a Valentine’s Day to remember. It’s so picturesque it was even featured in the Woody Allen film To Rome With Love in 2012. Boats can be rented throughout the day (though you might find the kiosk closed in bad weather) for €3 per person for a 20-minute session, making this activity an absolute steal. Just don’t fall in!
Enjoy the View from Up High
Known as the city of seven hills, Rome has a number of romantic spots from which to admire the city’s breathtaking skyline in all its domed and bell-towered glory. One of the most popular viewpoints can be found at the Giardino degli Aranci (Orange Garden) atop the Aventine Hill. The citrus-scented terrace affords a view over the Tiber, with the dome of St. Peter’s on the left and the historic center stretching out towards the right. Next door to the garden is the Knights of Malta Keyhole. A hidden peephole which offers a perfectly framed view of St. Peter’s cupola.

Give the Gift of Chocolate
If chocolate is the way to your loved one’s heart, then Rome offers a number of places to rack up brownie points – no pun intended. Confetteria Moriondo e Gariglio, located just a few steps from the Pantheon, is an old-fashioned confectionary shop which stocks delicious hand-made chocolates and candies. A red-ribboned box filled with your significant other’s choice of truffles, bonbons, and other elegant creations will get any date off to a good start. Alternatively, head to SAID dal 1923 in the San Lorenzo district. This 1920s chocolate factory serves up a modern menu of cocoa-based recipes, both savory and sweet. Stop by for an Italian-style hot chocolate – thick, rich and delicious. SAID’s version comes in a cup extravagantly dipped in chocolate sauce.
Take a Night-Time Stroll Through History
Exploring Rome’s most famous sights at night is particularly special. Not only do the crowds dissipate after sundown, but many monuments are also gently illuminated, creating a beautiful, romantic atmosphere. Our perfect romantic evening passeggiata would start at St. Peter’s Basilica. Cross the river to Castel Sant’Angelo and then wind deeper into the centro storico to see Piazza Venezia and the ruins of the Fori Imperiali. Finish at the icon of the Eternal City, the Colosseum, and walk in the footsteps of emperors and gladiators. Top tip: some tour operators also offer after-hours private tours of the inside of the arena.
