Can I travel to Europe?

The questions everyone is asking us these days are: Can I travel to Europe? and When can I travel to Italy?

Slowly things are returning to something we call the “new normal”. Early July seems confirmed for the broader re-opening of Europe. Quarantine requirements may be in place, and testing negative for COVID-19 or other preventive measures to control the spread of the coronavirus.

For the single European countries, and for Italy travel you may consult Reopen Europa website which is an excellent tool and gives detailed information whether you come from another European country or need to leave for third countries.

It may sound unlikely but there’s never been a better year to visit Rome thanks to the reduced crowds and TreasureRome’s flexible cancellation policy.

Slow Travel in a Timeless Place

Tourism is essential for the local economy in Rome and throughout Italy. And believe it or not, it is bittersweet feeling having the Eternal City all for us! While we enjoy strolling around an almost empty Piazza Navona with a gelato in hand on a sunny afternoon, we want to share the beauty of the Eternal City with the world.

There are fewer visitors in major cities and you mostly bump into locals or expats these days. Rome, among many other cities that suffered from overtourism in the past years, becomes “a misura d’uomo” , on a human scale, where slow discovery is possible, without the stress of queues and crowds. Truly a lifetime experience!

Travelling to Italy from the US

We hope we can welcome US travelers to Rome again soon. In the meantime stay safe and healthy!

Due to the current restrictions in Europe, probably the initial rebounding travel from the US will be visitors who have already recovered from the coronavirus, or are on long term trips, coming for study or relocating. Therefore a mandatory 14days quarantine wouldn’t apply or wouldn’t have significant effect on their stay.

What to Expect in Europe?

In Rome, there are limited entrances to visit most of the monuments and museums. It is very important to plan and book your tickets ahead of time.

Temperature checks are common in museums and even in restaurants. Indoor spaces, like museums, supermarkets and offices require people to wear a mask. Most of the shops and venues display mandatory rules like social distancing, masks and hand sanitizing.

The hospitality industry in Italy is well prepared for travellers: hotels and vacation rentals have strict and severe protocols for cleaning and sanitizing. Apartments are preferred over hotels because of easier distancing and privacy features.

Experience Italy without getting on a plane?

Last but not least, here are two great ways to visit Italy without leaving the comfort of your home.

You can experience Italy from your sofa thanks to a project Italia dal Divano. “Digital tourism is so important right now: firstly, because it’s the only way we can travel at the moment. But also, because we need to keep the tourism sector alive – it’s been one of the hardest hit industries due to the coronavirus and will suffer an inevitable backlash in the coming months,”

And the following is something we offer as a special gift until we can meet in Rome! We very much enjoyed filming it, do give them a try!

Three free digital cooking classes with our friend, Chef Michele, directly from our Spanish Steps Terrace apartment, with authentic Roman recipes. Hope you enjoy, and will let us know how we can help planning your next visit!
