Streets of Rome: Via del Governo Vecchio

The street Via del Governo Vecchio connects Piazza dell’Orologio, whose name comes from the clock placed on the tower of the Filippini convent built by Borromini, to Piazza del Pasquino, one of the famous ‘talking statues’ of Rome. Via del Governo Vecchio is a characteristic and atmospheric street just a few steps away from Piazza Navona and Campo de’ Fiori. Not to be missed, it has many essential features of the Eternal City: history, shopping, and traditional Roman cuisine.

There are many clothing stores, including vintage boutiques, ideal for browsing trendy clothes, accessories, and shoes. We especially love Omero e Cecilia – you’ll recognize it by the pre-loved treasures, such as leather jackets and bags, that hang in the entrance and spill out into the street.  A true paradise for all shopping addicts!

The independent stores are not limited to clothes though, and this streets offers some of our favorite unique spots in Rome.  There’s Altroquando, an artisan bookshop with a pub in the basement; Caffè Novecento, where you can start your day with a good cappuccino and a croissant; and CamBiovita, a gelateria and pastry shop that offers organic products also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. For lunch and dinner, there are several restaurants and pizzerias to choose from.

This is one of our favorite streets in Rome to take a walk, we love the historic buildings and small shops that give it its unique atmosphere.
